Only about 7% of early-stage drugs make it to market, with development costs averaging $2.6 billion, according to the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development. When you weigh the costs, and the fact that it takes an average of 12 years for a drug to move from the research lab to the patient, it’s clear a new wave of innovation is needed in the clinical trial process.
